It is helpful for children to learn to spell words that aligns with their phonics curriculum. If your child does not have a phonics curriculum, it is very helpful to group spelling words with the same phonic's rule that is on your child's level. For example, a good spelling list for children could be, "good, hood, stood," and the next week could be, "could, would, should." If a child was not at that level, a good CVC list could be, "bad, had, dad." Grouping words with similar phonic's rules and explicitly teaching the phonic's rule helps children learn the phonic's rules that apply to many words instead of simply memorizing a word and then forgetting the word a week later. Review is also helpful! For example after a month of CVC word families with the short a, a good list might be, "had, can, sat."

Encouragement: Mommy, Daddy, Primary Caregiver, teaching children how to spell based on sounds is research-backed! You are doing an awesome job!
